Respiratory physiotherapy (RPT) is a specialty of physiotherapy dedicated to the prevention, treatment and stabilization of respiratory dysfunctions or alterations, whose general objective is to improve pulmonary regional ventilation, gas exchange, respiratory muscle function, dyspnea, exercise tolerance and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). It consists of a series of specialized techniques and procedures for functional diagnostic assessment of the respiratory system and therapeutic intervention techniques for airway clearance, respiratory re-education and re-adaptation to exercise.
